Mechanical watch movement

What you can count on from a single-bench workshop

A record of how Corvane Works differs from what is commonly on offer for mechanical watch servicing in Perak and the surrounding region.

← Workshop Index

Six things the workshop offers

These are not marketing claims. Each point below describes a specific, verifiable aspect of how Corvane Works operates.

One bench, one watchmaker

Ruzaini Hamid carries out all mechanical work personally. When you describe a problem, the person who answers is the person who will work on the movement.

Written record of every service

Each job produces a written record: findings, parts replaced, regulation data, and post-service performance. This comes back to you with the watch.

No scope creep without agreement

If disassembly reveals additional work, we stop and contact you. Nothing proceeds beyond the agreed scope without your explicit decision.

Duration estimates you can rely on

The ranges stated for each service reflect actual bench time, not optimistic targets. You are contacted if anything changes the timeline.

Calibre sourcing discussed openly

For less common calibres, parts availability is discussed before any work begins. We do not start a job we cannot complete without telling you first.

Estate pieces handled with consideration

Watches from family estates or long storage receive a specific documentation service. The output is a factual, descriptive report — not a valuation or a sales pitch for further work.

Each benefit, explained

Mechanical expertise built over years of bench work

Ruzaini Hamid has worked on mechanical movements for over fifteen years, with a sustained focus on column-wheel and cam-actuated chronograph calibres. This is a narrow specialism that requires accumulated experience — particularly in adjusting reset depth, pusher feel, and coupling clutch engagement, where the tolerance for error is small.

  • Column-wheel and cam-lever chronograph calibres serviced
  • 72-hour functional check across start, stop, and reset cycles
  • Parts sourcing network for less common calibres in Southeast Asia

A defined scope for each service

Each of the three services at Corvane Works has a defined scope, a stated method, and a realistic duration. This is not how most repair workshops operate — more commonly, a watch is received, assessed informally, and returned with a verbal account of what was done. Our written record makes the process legible to the owner.

  • Scope, method, and duration stated at intake
  • Written service record returned with every piece
  • No work proceeds beyond agreed terms without owner confirmation

Plain, direct communication at every step

Enquiries are answered personally and directly. When a piece is assessed, findings are described in plain language — not in ways designed to encourage additional spending. Owners who wish to visit the workshop and discuss work in person are welcome to do so by appointment.

  • Enquiries answered by the same person who carries out the work
  • Workshop visits by appointment — Ipoh, Perak
  • Condition described factually, without pressure to proceed

Stated pricing, no hidden additions

Prices for each service are published and represent the cost for work within the stated scope. Where unusual parts or extended effort are required — for instance, on a calibre with scarce spares — this is identified before any commitment is made, and a revised figure is discussed.

  • Chronograph Mechanism Service from RM 2,100
  • Strap Fitting and Spring Bar Renewal from RM 480
  • Estate Documentation (up to 6 pieces) from RM 3,900

Work you can verify

A movement returned from Corvane Works has been through a documented process. Chronographs have completed a 72-hour functional check. Straps have been assessed for lug compatibility. Estate pieces come with a bound report and digital archive. The output of each service is tangible, not asserted.

  • Chronographs tested over 72 hours before return
  • Estate reports delivered as bound document and digital archive
  • Rate data and regulation notes included in every service record

How we compare

This comparison is not intended to speak negatively of other workshops. It is intended to describe, plainly, what differs about the Corvane Works approach.

What sets the workshop apart

The estate documentation service is not commonly available

A thorough, written condition report for up to six estate watches — covering calibre identification, originality assessment, and functional testing — is not a standard offering at repair workshops in this region. Corvane Works provides it as a defined service with a stated price and turnaround.

Chronograph work as a specialism, not a sideline

Many workshops will service a chronograph if asked. Corvane Works has structured its chronograph service specifically around the needs of column-wheel and cam-actuated calibres, with an explicit 72-hour functional check. The service is not a general movement clean — it is calibre-specific work.

Based in Ipoh, reachable for personal drop-off

The workshop is at 41 Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, accessible from central Ipoh. Owners from Perak and the surrounding states can drop off pieces in person and discuss the work before leaving anything at the bench. This is not a postal service.

Service records as a permanent reference

The written record returned with each service serves as documentation for the piece's history. For estate watches and valued mechanical pieces, this kind of paper trail matters to subsequent owners and to the piece's own record. We write it as such.
